DEPARTMENT CHAIR, RECREATION STUDIES AT LANGARA COLLEGE, VANCOUVER, BC

Highlights of my achievements as Department Chair include:
• Leading the Recreation Studies Department through a global pandemic, and supporting other departments in the college transition to online teaching and learning
• In partnership with the Langara Foundation, and Women Leaders of Tomorrow, developing the newly created Langara College Humanitarian Impact Fund ($250,000) designed to support refugee students and students in crises from around the world gain access to education
• Leading the Recreation Studies Department through a successful Program Review and the first External Program Review at Langara College mandated by the Ministry of Education
• Leading the Department alongside the Teaching and Curriculum Development Center through a robust process of revising and enhancing all Program Learning Outcomes (PLO’s), Course Learning Outcomes (CLO’s), and Curriculum and Assessment Mapping in alignment with Program Review
• Developing a Full Program Proposal (FPP) for the Bachelor of Recreation Management Degree (BRM) for the Degree Quality Assurance Board (DQAB) and Ministry approval
• Leading Recreation Studies to be the first department to incorporate Collaborative Online International Learning Virtual Exchange (COIL-VE) into two courses and integrating intercultural competencies in the CLOs and PLOs throughout the Recreation Leadership Diploma curriculum
• Leading and supporting the department toward decolonization and indigenization of the curriculum. In addition, developing relationships with an indigenous artist and commissioning her to design department specific artwork, honoring Recreation Studies to be the first program with its own unique indigenous branding at the College
• Leading the department’s marketing and recruitment initiatives, which, to date have increased enrollment by 50%
• Negotiating and securing Langara College’s first incoming articulation agreement
• Leading and supporting the department and faculty in transitioning to teaching online during the pandemic
• Creating and maintaining a departmental culture that supports employees and staff through innovation, collaboration and fun
I was also responsible for the overall administration of the Recreation Studies Department including but not limited to:
• Overseeing registration, scheduling, hiring, and evaluating faculty and staff, and managing all faculty contracts in conjunction with the Langara Faculty Association collective agreement
• Development and delivery of the Recreation Studies Department budget as well as faculty professional development funds and applied research projects
• Recreation Studies liaise, responsible for building and maintaining partnerships with all internal departments and external stakeholders
